Taking on the Future

Hey guys! I am so glad you are here and I hope this post finds you doing well! It’s Alyssa, and today I am so excited to be sharing on a topic that is so relevant to everyone- the future. The future can be exciting, and for some it may be scary. There is a beauty in the future that we as Christians have, and that is one day, we will meet Jesus and spend the rest of forever with Him. Now, let’s dive into the rest of this!

For me personally, I am so excited for my future. I recently began my college search- and it is so crazy to think that this time next year I will be getting ready to graduate high school! I will then go to college to get my RN/BSN and I want to work in a children’s hospital! I then would like to go back to school and get my doctorate in nursing and use those skills to go live on mission to care for the sick physically and spiritually! I am so excited to see how God will use me & the patients I will have the opportunity to care for.

At Momentum last summer, I dedicated my life to full time vocational ministry. Not knowing exactly what that would look like at the time, I knew God had a bigger plan in mind. Throughout Operation Barnabas and Momentum last summer, Jeremiah 29:11 constantly came to my mind. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse really comforted me in the resting fact that God is in complete control, and that His plan is hopeful, beautiful, intricate, and intentional. Whatever comes your way, rest in the grace of God.

With the thought of the road ahead of me, comes much anxiety and stress. I can be very anxious at times, and it is easy to freak out thinking about student loans, finding a job, and balancing life. Philippians 4:6 is a beautiful verse that helps me with my anxiety. It states “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, in prayer and in petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”. This is saying that in every situation, turn to prayer. Talk to God about everything and ask for help. I think this is such a beautiful verse to look to when life overwhelms me.

To me, going to a college that incorporates Christian values into their education is so important to me. I think that college will be a great time to strengthen my faith. I know that my faith will be challenged and commended, and I think it will be a good indication of how strong I really am as a Christian. At one college I visited (and fell IN LOVE with), I got to tour the campus and meet the house that a lot of bible studies happen at. It was so amazing to see how I will be able to grow as a Christian as well as obtaining my degree.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight”. I remember being at VBS as a child singing a song that talks about these verses, and it always comes to mind when I am stressed about the future. No matter what your future is, college, marriage, work, the military… God has a plan for you. Just because He has a plan, doesn’t mean that it is the plan you want- it’s the plan the Lord wants. This may not be the prettiest of paths either- it will be messy. It will seem like there isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel and that it is not worth it. Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him. Who have been called according to His purpose”. God’s plan is for the good, and if it’s not good, then it is certainly not anywhere close to the end of it.

That completes my post for the day! I hope you guys were encouraged by this! Comment down below your plans and dreams for your future! We love you guys, have a great week!!

Love, A
